Diversity & Inclusion Statement

Strut Niagara - Code of Conduct/Inclusion Statement

Created in Collaboration with Your Royal Hybrid - Krista Carew

Our community values diversity, fostering an inclusive space where everyone feels welcome and accepted, free from judgment or stereotypes.  We welcome dancers of all bodies, genders, races, sexual orientations, abilities, and backgrounds where everyone can express themselves through the joy of dance. We embrace individuals of all shapes and sizes, recognizing and celebrating the uniqueness of each person.

At our dance studio, we proudly stand for trans inclusion. We affirm and honour the identities of our trans, non-binary and gender-diverse dancers by creating a supportive space for our queer and trans communities.

By entering our dance studio, you agree to contribute to a safer space prioritizing trans and queer inclusion. The goal is to foster an inclusive and affirming space where EVERYBODY can express themselves freely through dance.  Dance is about a person connecting to their body, mind, and spirit.  Dance has no gender. Trans and queer inclusion fosters a safer space for all dancers.

Strut Niagara upholds a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, discrimination, harassment, and violence in alignment with the Ontario Human Rights Code. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every dancer is treated with respect and dignity free from all forms of discrimination.

Strut Niagara is committed to fostering a trans-inclusive environment through:

  • Trans inclusion consultation and training for staff
  • Highlighting trans choreographers, dancers, and artists
  • Utilizing gender-neutral language and inclusion of pronouns
  • Providing all-gender facilities such as washrooms and changerooms
  • Offering a range of clothing options for dancers of all genders
  • Community consultation through surveys and feedback
  • Consulting with people with lived experience for ongoing support

Strut Niagara is committed to ongoing work to ensure their spaces are queer and trans-inclusive.  Feedback is welcome and encouraged.

Let's collectively ensure that every dancer feels safe, supported, and able to express their passion for dance without fear of judgment or prejudice.
